Psychedelic Music Explosion

Continuing the Psychedelic Music Explosion with music along the silk road or wherever great music takes us, we embark on a space ship ready to take off with fantastic musicians from Jordan, Palestine, and Greece. Here, we have the Jordanian and Palestinian band El Morabba3 (the square in Arabic), who have been producing a groundbreaking sound with their unique music and socially engaged lyrics for more than 14 years. There, we have Σtella, a Greek-born English-speaking songwriter, painter, visual artist, and performer. Buckle up, we’re closing our second season!

El Morabba3

Back in 2009, their fresh rock/post-rock electronic sound, described as euphoric, holistic, spacey, and raucous quickly catapulted the Jordanian-Palestinian band from Amman to massive success; an artistic journey that saw them become one of the leading socially and politically outspoken bands reviving the Arab independent music scene. El Morabba3 broke cultural barriers and appealed to a generation of hunger-stricken fans living in an unstable and restless region, as they craved a new sound; one that expressed the thoughts, concerns, and anger of the people towards the realities they are living today.

Today, Mohammad Abdulla and Basel Naouri live in Berlin, they have restructured the band and take El Morabba3's earlier aesthetic evolution into a new direction. Departing from the raw post-rock energy of the first album and the polished instrumental/electronic fervor of the second, the artists have taken a deep dive into experimentation with electronic tunes and storytelling.

Σtella

Σtella’s Sub Pop debut Up and Away emerges from Athens and London after a long-haul recording session with London-based producer Redinho, that found her rediscovering the 50s and 60s record collection her parents raised her on. This does sound eerily familiar, as we have had so many other musicians on our stages that have found artistic value and feelings of belonging in the music their parents listened to. In Σtella’s songs, you'll find her honeyed vocals offset by dizzying blasts of bouzouki improvisation and dreamy kanun tunes, accompanied by vintage drums and bass lines.

Mano Santo

Mano Santo's musical journey started with a great passion for West Coast hip-hop. Soon he started producing beats with his friends and his music naturally evolved across genres. Inspired by his roots in the Balkans and by the sampling culture in hip-hop music, he takes the freedom to experiment with rhythms and melodies and blends them as he sees fit. This is where he is most passionate and feels home. The outcome: an eclectic mix of cultures, languages, and genres.
